Hi, I'm Brenda Parrish, owner of Cumberland Circle Music Publishing. I'm from LaBelle, Missouri, a small town just west of the Mississippi River along highway 6 in the northeast corner. Several years ago, with the love and support of my beautiful family, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in songwriting. Not long after arriving in Music City I was very fortunate to be signed as a staff writer for Acuff Rose, where I worked alongside some of the music industry's finest and wrote with some of the world's greatest songwriters. My time there was a most positive learning experience and served as a solid foundation on which to build while continuing to learn about the ever changing music business and industry. Music has always been my passion. I remember being five years old at my babysitter's house listening to a Simon & Garfunkel song blasting out of the speakers of a tiny record player. I loved it! When I was eight years old my dad taught me to play Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash on guitar. Dad would play lead, I would play the chic-a-boom while my brother would keep time on a red vinyl footstool using multi-colored plastic bowling pins for drumsticks. Mom was our number one fan chiming in with a robust round of applause and spoiling us with an occasional whit-whoo whistle when we sounded extra good. I love how music brings people together and how just by strumming on an old guitar, we are able to make friends and memories that last a lifetime. While I remain very optimistic about the future of music and its creators, it is my hope that more songwriters will be afforded the sustainability needed in order to grow and thrive in an environment that supports and values their immeasurable contributions. Music speaks to the essence of who we are as human beings. It gives us perspective and reminds us of our own humanity. I am at the same time both humbled and proud to be a member of the community of music as both a listener and a creator. For me, music is an adventure... a trip without a destination created solely to be experienced along life's journey. It leads and I follow feeling incredibly grateful for every opportunity that gives me a chance to connect with you through music.
